We offer a wide variety of opportunities so that all students are supported to develop their leadership qualities, whether this be as part of the Sixth Form Leadership Team or the Sports Team, membership of the Sixth Form Council or as an academic or personal mentor for a younger student in school.
The Sixth Form also offers numerous extra-curricular societies, all of which are student-led, and the success of the strong House system at LGGS is due to the leadership, energy and commitment of the Sixth Form House Captains: each year they lead and inspire students in KS3 and KS4 to take part in events such as the school’s Performing Arts Festival, the Music Festival, and Sports Day. We know that our younger students are inspired to be the best they can be by our wonderful Sixth Form leaders, and we hope they will soon be steeping into those shoes themselves when they choose to join LGGS Sixth Form.
Welcome from our Head Student
It is my utmost privilege to be the Head Student of LGGS, a place that made me feel so welcome from the moment I walked through the door. The support here from both staff and students is unparalleled, helping everyone to thrive and to make the most of the amazing opportunities that our school offers.
Over the past six years, I have made wonderful memories that I will treasure forever. Being part of a Sixth Form within a school opens so many doors for leadership opportunities, through leading events such as Performing Arts Festival and acting as a mentor for younger students. There are also many societies and extra-curricular clubs so there really is something for everyone – and if you think anything is missing then you could set up a new society yourself! Community spirit is such a key part of the ethos here at LGGS and these extracurricular experiences not only help students to develop strong leadership skills for the future, but also to build friendships that will last a lifetime.
Starting Sixth Form is a fresh start for everyone, whether you were at this school in year 11 or you have moved from elsewhere. The jump from GCSEs to A-Levels can seem enormous at first, but the support from your teachers will allow you to have a smooth transition and get the most out of your Sixth Form experience. I remember being a bit worried about the workload at the start of Year 12 but I can assure you there is always a friendly face you can talk to about any issues you face, no matter how big or small!
LGGS’s outstanding academic record speaks volumes about the incredible teaching that will help you to flourish academically and achieve your goals. There is no better place to study the subjects you love and to develop your understanding beyond the curriculum. Our academic excellence goes hand-in-hand with the emphasis we place on student wellbeing and enjoyment. There is strong focus here on discovering your passions and developing the skills to leave LGGS prepared for life beyond ‘our small world upon the hill’.
I can guarantee your decision to come to LGGS Sixth Form will be one of the best you ever make. I am sure that you will thrive both personally and academically, cherishing some amazing memories along the way. We can’t wait to welcome you to the LGGS community!
